In our calculation, the first three month in the company is the probation period where the new guy would be rotating in a few different groups of the department trying to fit in and contribute. The the next six month was for familiarizing with the project in a team that accepted him. If he could not be an independent contributor by the end of next year, then he would be notified to look for the next job.
